The creators of nearly all of the most famous and enduring superheroes were of Jewish ancestry. These include: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, creators of Superman; Bob Kane, creator of Batman; and Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, creators of Captain America and numerous other characters; and Stan Lee, creator/co-creator of Spider-Man, Black Panther, and the X-Men. FAU Professor of English, Dr. Eric Berlatsky outlines some of the possible reasons why Jews were drawn not only to the comic book industry, but also to the superhero genre.
