Join Dr. Al Dorsey for a timely and fascinating presentation, "Historically, Black Lives Did Not Matter, but Black Bodies Did." The United States prides itself on the assertion that it is a country composed of immigrants, but the original Africans did not come as immigrants looking for better opportunities. They were captured, shackled and placed on slave ships, and forced to come here and work solely for the benefit of their owners. Dr. Dorsey will dissect the roots and evolution of African-American labor over hundreds of years in order to demonstrate that, even today, black Americans’ lives are still seen as less valuable and more expendable in parts of the American ethos.
