FAU Presents the 2011 Biennial Faculty Exhibition

The University Galleries in Florida Atlantic University’s  Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present the 2011 Biennial Faculty Exhibition from Saturday, September 17 through Saturday, November 12, in the Schmidt and Ritter Galleries on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The exhibition features recent art by 37 artists that teach in three University programs, including the department of visual arts and art history, the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies, and the School of Architecture. There will be an opening reception on Friday, September 16, at 6 p.m., beginning in the Schmidt Center Gallery and concluding in the Ritter Art Gallery. The exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.

The Biennial Faculty Exhibition includes a great variety of media and artistic styles, from traditional drawing, painting and sculpture to video and photographic works that demonstrate the preponderance of electronic and digital art works in contemporary art. The exhibition is an opportunity for students to see art made by their professors and instructors, and for the general public to see the wide range of visual arts that are produced and taught by FAU faculty. FAU’s visual arts, multimedia studies and architecture programs engage over 3,000 students through faculty who combine teaching with their production of art both directly related to what they teach as well as art work that inspires and informs the subjects they teach.

The University Galleries are open Tuesdays through Fridays, 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 1 to 5 p.m. The Galleries are also open at other hours for class, school and group tours by appointment. The University Galleries recommend that visitors park and view the Schmidt Center Gallery first and then walk to the Ritter Art Gallery (a five minute walk).

Parking on the University campus is subject to strict regulations. For visitors during the weekday hours, metered parking on the south side of the new Living Room Theaters is recommended. The Schmidt Center Gallery is located in the Performing Arts building (#51) marked by a tall white cubicle tower.

The 2011 Biennial Faculty Exhibition is produced in collaboration with the Department of Visual Arts and Art History. University Galleries exhibition and education programs are supported by the Palm Beach County Cultural Council; the R.A. Ritter Foundation; Beatrice Cummings Mayer; the Sun-Sentinel Children’s Fund, a fund of the McCormick Foundation; and individual contributors.
