Delray Beach’s June 24 Art & Jazz Features Full Agenda
Preview of 15 Summer Activities, CRA 25th Anniversary Celebration, Grand Opening of SW 5th Plaza, Historic Scavenger Hunt, Art & Jazz on the Avenue
Delray Beach’s popular Art & Jazz series continues Thursday, June 24, with a night filled with activities and fun for everyone.
“We are welcoming summer with an evening designed to keep everyone busy having a great time,” announced Sarah Martin, Executive Director of the Downtown Marketing Cooperative, Inc., which produces Art & Jazz.
In addition to the usual art and music in the street, the evening will offer:
- The 5pm ribbon cutting by area dignitaries and special guests to mark the official opening of the just-completed SW 5th Avenue Plaza. Food and music by Joe Wright & the Pure Justice Band will follow from 6-10 pm.
- Celebration of the Community Redevelopment Agency’s 25th Anniversary at a special booth in the new SW 5th Avenue Plaza.
- Preview of 15 Things to Do in Delray Beach this summer highlighted at special stations strategically located along Atlantic Avenue. As part of this preview, Downtown restaurants will present tastings. Dance demonstrations, art showcases and free putt-putt golf and tennis activities will add to the fun.
- Historic Scavenger Hunt contest leading participants to sites throughout Delray Beach’s Downtown for answers.
- Special 7-9 pm exhibit hours for Stuff II: The Joy of Collecting exhibit at the Cornell Museum of Art & American Culture at Old School Square.
Live music along Atlantic Avenue will add to the festive atmosphere. Scheduled performers include:
- Strictly Business at the Old School Square Pavilion;
- Virtuous Productions Dancers in the 100 block;
- Entertainment at Cugini Grille in the 200 block;
- Guitarist Eric Hansen in the 300 block;
- Jim Kovalcik Trio in the 400 block;
- Groove Merchant in the 500 block;
- Hook in the 600 block.
Admission is free.
Atlantic Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4-10 pm between Swinton Avenue and SE Seventh Avenue.
Art and Jazz events are produced by the Delray Beach Downtown Marketing Cooperative, Inc., and presented by the Community Redevelopment Agency and the Sun-Sentinel. Other event sponsors are SunTrust, Sunny 104.3 FM, Comcast Spotlight, Worthing Place, Geico and The Office Depot Foundation.
Future 2010 Art and Jazz events are August 19, October 21 and December 2. Other upcoming events include the July 4th Independence Day Extravaganza and Summer Nights on the Avenue.
