As part of the fifth annual Allianz Championship tournament event week that drives proceeds to Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Family Day sponsored by the City of Boca Raton tees-off prior to the second round of PGA Champions Tour’s tournament play with a Fairway 5K Run/Walk, the first 5K to ever take place on a Florida championship golf course plus a separate free Junior Fun Run that will hit the green at the same time. A fun-filled Family Day follows the 5K at 9 a.m., offering something for everyone, including appearances by mascots from Florida sports teams, including Dolphins’ TD; Marlins’ Billy The Marlin; Miami Heat’s Burnie; Palm Beach Cardinals’ Robbie, the Red Bird; and Lynn University’s Big LU plus face painting; a bounce house; the Florida Panthers Party Mobile with video games and activities; Miami Dolphins Blow Up QB Football Toss; putting contests, including a “Last Junior Standing” putting contest at 2:30 p.m. at the Putting Green; a golf clinic and ParKit Skills Challenge with Don Law near the Driving Range from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Gumbo Limbo Nature Center Aquatic Awareness and Crafts activities, and more.
The 2011 Allianz Championship roster includes golf legends Bernhard Langer, Nick Price, Tom Lehman, Corey Pavin, Peter Jacobsen, and Fuzzy Zoeller and tour rookies Mark Calcavecchia and Steve Lowery competing for a tournament purse of $1.8 million, with all championship rounds televised by the Golf Channel from The Old Course at Broken Sound Club.
