Delray Beach Parks and Recreation and the Delray Beach Youth Council invite the local community to join them for "ROCK ON THE AVE" - Battle of the Bands concert featuring local high school "rock" bands on Saturday, November 7th, starting at 6 p.m., at the Old School Square Amphitheater. This new youth event, which costs $3 per person, will support The Caring Kitchen's "Holiday" hot meal program. Members of the Youth Council will assist The Caring Kitchen in serving meals to approximately 225 needy Delray Beach area community members. The concert line-up will include the following local bands: The Sprawl Inoculation Dead Bang The Newport Breakers Band Mariner Common Sounds Chaos Theory Bands will compete for one of three prizes. The first place winner will receive $300 and four (4) hours of free recording time at Mercury Studios in Pompano Beach, Florida. Second place will receive $200 and the third place band will receive $100. In order to participate in the "ROCK ON THE AVE" concert, each band had to audition and earn a spot in the concert line-up. Also, at least one band member must be in high school for their band to qualify and participate. The "ROCK ON THE AVE" - Battle of the Bands concert is being underwritten by the City of Delray Beach Youth Council, the City's Parks and Recreation Department, a sponsorship by Mercury Studios and a grant received by the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). The Delray Beach Youth Council was established in 1995 to prepare the City's youth of today for leadership of tomorrow by giving them a voice and vote on youth related issues. The Youth Council is a community service organization that relies on "fundraising efforts" to support their volunteer programs and initiatives.
