26th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEAN UP

The City of Delray Beach and the Sandoway House invites the public to "Make a Difference by Volunteering" at the 26th Annual International Coastal Clean Up.  In an effort to promote a cleaner and safer beach environment, the City of Delray Beach and the Sandoway House will be participate in this worldwide campaign that enlists volunteers to collect trash and debris from shorelines, rivers and lakes.

This year's event will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011, from 8:00 am until 10:00 am, at the Sandoway House Nature Center, 142 South Ocean Blvd.  Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend this free event and join in this global effort.  Supplies will be provided and participants are able to earn community service hours.

"Protecting our world class beach and marine life is everyone's responsibility," said Linda Karch, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Delray Beach.  "By helping with the cleanup effort, the City will promote awareness to everyone who utilizes our beach."

Registration forms are located at the Sandoway House, 142 South Ocean Blvd., in the lobby of Delray Beach City Hall, 100 NW 1st Avenue, Delray Beach Community Center, 50 NW 1st Avenue, and online at www.mydelraybeach.com by selecting "International Coastal Clean Up" on the home page.

The International Coastal Clean Up is the world's largest one day volunteer event of its kind.  Last year, approximately 400,000 volunteers from over 100 countries took part in this effort, resulting in the collection of more than six (6) million pounds of trash.
