2012 Bon Festival
Obon, or the Bon Festival, signifies a time when the spirits of deceased family members are believed to return for a brief visit to the world of the living.
At the Morikami, the three-day event is celebrated in one evening, and features a street fair, Japanese folk dancing, taiko drum performances, lantern floating on Morikami Pond and fireworks.
Because of last year’s large crowd (almost 9,000 people), the museum has decided to limit admission to this year’s festival. Tickets are only available online, in advance.
When: 4-9 p.m. Aug. 18
Admission: adults $15, children $6.
Note: Morikami members get in free and do not need to reserve their tickets. Limited admission for non-members.
Online advance ticket sales only: www.morikami.org
