DELRAY BEACH, Fla., – Feb. 5, 2010 – Beginning Friday, Feb. 19th, Taizé prayer services will resume at First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach located at 33 Gleason St. The 8:00 am Friday morning services will continue through Good Friday, April 2nd and will be led by Parish Associate Reverend Linda Harper and musician Michael Testa. Additionally, Rev. Harper and Mr. Testa will bring Taizé services to Abbey Delray South, a senior assisted-living community in Delray Beach, each Monday at 11:00 am in the Hospitality Room from Feb. 22nd until March 29th (except for March 8th).

All are welcome to these short, half-hour services which will include unison singing, reading from the Psalms, a reading from the Gospels, ten minutes of silent prayer or meditation and a closing hymn. These ecumenical prayer services are meant to cultivate reconciliation and peace among all people using simple songs and meditative prayer.

“We are thrilled to offer these unique, contemplative services to the community both at our church and at Abbey Delray South,” says Senior Pastor Theodore Bush, Ph.D. of First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach. “The simplicity of Taizé prayer fosters unity with God in a meaningful way for the participants.”

Taizé Prayer is an ecumenical form of prayer modeled after an international, ecumenical community founded in the 1940's by Brother Roger in Taizé, France.
