Grants sought for lift station — The South Palm Beach Town Council passed a resolution on July 14 to allow for a grant application to Resilient Florida for a new wastewater lift station. Town Manager Jamie Titcomb said the grant would provide $2.5 million in funds, roughly half the total cost of the project.
Titcomb also said that the town is having conversations with lobbyists in Washington D.C. to try to secure federal grants. He said that if things went right on that front, the project could potentially see a full reimbursement over multiple years.
Town affirms waterfront permitting powers — The council passed a resolution that affirms the town’s permitting jurisdiction over docks, sea walls, piers and other waterfront structures within its boundaries.
“This resolution reinforces our home-rule powers and commitment to processing these permits locally,” Mayor Rafael Pineiro said. “Which will allow our friends from Brittany, Concordia ... to proceed with their dock projects.”
A related ordinance was also read after the council passed the resolution to codify the process in which licenses would be granted. The ordinance passed on first reading.
Sea wall markings update — A public safety ordinance announced in June was given tentative approval at the July 14 council meeting. The ordinance would require condominiums facing the ocean to be marked with their address numbers to make it easier for emergency services to accurately locate beach emergencies.
Updated sheriff’s contract approved — The council approved a new contract with the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office. The new $1.2 million contract is a 3% increase from the current year. The agreement is for the fiscal year that starts on Oct. 1.
