Lanette Bosch Gustafson, a 20-year Ocean Ridge resident who serves as an alternate on the town’s Planning and Zoning Board, has been appointed to a seat on the Town Commission.
Gustafson replaces two-term Commissioner David Hutchins, who died in May at age 78. Nominated by Commissioner Carolyn Cassidy, Gustafson was unanimously selected by town commissioners at their meeting on July 8. She is to be sworn in in August and will serve until March 2027.
A commercial real estate capital markets adviser, Gustafson acknowledged she hasn’t been active in town affairs because of work demands.
“The P&Z board kind of prepared me for town service,” she said before commissioners voted on her nomination. “I think I’ll do a good job.”
While Vice Mayor Steve Coz thanked others for submitting applications, the town clerk said none were formally filed. “The vacancy was filled by suggestions of the commissioners themselves,” the clerk wrote in response to a public records request.
Cassidy said Gustafson will be a welcome addition. “She’s smart and thoughtful,” Cassidy said. “I think she’ll bring refreshing new ideas to the commission.”
