FORT MYERS —Jon Larsen Shudlick, 84, of Fort Myers, formerly of Ocean Ridge and Rice Lake, Wisconsin, died on Aug. 3, 2025. He was born on Sept. 23, 1940, in Rice Lake, to Arthur and Florence (Larsen) Shudlick.
Mr. Shudlick was baptized into the Christian faith as an infant and was confirmed into the Christian faith at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, in 1954.
At the age of 12, he fell from the top of a willow tree across from the Elks Club and next to the old city beach in Rice Lake. He suffered compound fractures in both wrists and hands and was in and out of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for many months. He had lasting injuries to his hands and wrists and was unable to participate in sports until later in life.
Mr. Shudlick graduated from Rice Lake High School, Class of 1959. In the spring 1965, he was drafted, passed his physical and completed boot camp and advanced training, and was a military police investigator with the 4th US Army Missile Command at Fort Page, Korea, near the DMZ. He proudly served his country, never mentioned his previous injuries, and was honorably discharged after serving his entire two years of service.
In 1972, Mr. Shudlick moved to Ocean Ridge, where he became a very successful real estate broker and salesman.
Between 1978 and 1988 he served the town of Ocean Ridge as a commissioner and mayor.
The highlight of his life was the birth of his son, Johann, who is a successful businessman in Austin, Texas. Later in life, Mr. Shudlick took up stock car racing at the Rice Lake Speed Pit and in 1986, he won the Hialeah Demolition Derby. He subsequently met his soulmate, Phylis Moreno, and they had a wonderful life together until her passing. Mr. Shudlick was an author as well, and with Phylis’ help he wrote and published “The Lincoln School Dream Team.”
He is survived by his son, Johann, sister Helen, brothers, Harold and Dave, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Shudlick was preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathy, and Phylis Moreno.
As Mr. Shudlick requested, he was buried at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Spooner, Wisconsin, and he is in God’s hands. His funeral may be viewed on the YouTube app or website by searching “Jon Shudlick Funeral.”
