Inspired by the Ocean Science Meeting in Hawaii, Pope John Paul II High School marine-science students bored into the sand to collect a core sample of sediments. Students used a system devised by Gavin Guinan, in which a piece of pipe was placed over a clear tube and pounded into the ground.
