Mayor praised for lobbying of Tallahassee — Florida League of Cities President Holly Smith of Sanibel presented Lantana Mayor Karen Lythgoe with the Home Rule Hero Award during a meeting of the Palm Beach County League of Cities in Palm Beach Gardens on July 22.
The award is given to local leaders who go above and beyond to protect the rights of cities and towns to make their own decisions. During the 2026 legislative session, Lythgoe worked to ensure Lantana’s voice was heard in Tallahassee, advocating against bills that would have impacted local zoning, business taxes and community autonomy.
