It’s a time of reflection.
It’s a time to look back at the year so far and to think about what remains.
And it’s a time for gratitude.
I turn to this newspaper sometimes, when I need to get my priorities straight — to look back on just how much for which there is to be grateful.
I am grateful to the citizens who regularly attend the city council and town commission meetings and remind our officials that what they do affects each of us.
I am grateful to our readers who take initiative and get involved in their communities. People, like Betty Grinnan, who have helped keep the momentum going for Boca Raton to build a new library. And others, like this month’s Meet Your Neighbor, Lynne Chandler Novick, who has stayed involved in the transformation of downtown Boca Raton.
I am grateful to such people as this month’s Coastal Star, Dan Bellante, who will no doubt inspire others to help children in need.
Our community owes thanks to George Bolge for so valiantly leading the Boca Raton Museum of Art into a new millennium, with interesting shows that highlight the best of contemporary art. As he retires, we can hope the museum’s board will find a replacement who can match Bolge’s vision to take the museum to the next level.
And I have a deep appreciation of our readers who live on the other side of the bridge, like Elisabeth Hoffman, who regularly e-mails and calls with news tips.
I am grateful, too, for our team of award-winning writers and columnists. I think you’ll agree your life is a little richer for having read thought-provoking features, like our new Coasting Along feature on Boca Raton’s Meating Place, and an obituary that really captures the spirit of Ethel Fuog.
And I am most grateful of all to you, dear readers, for welcoming us into your neighborhoods.
