Mothers and daughters held hands to form circles in the blue ocean in the shadow of the Delray Beach Seagate Beach Club on Aug. 8. Sharing dreams, aspirations and compassion. Together.
The union of matriarchs and girls ages 7-14 marked the first in-person meeting of the Courage Club, a group started by Kelly Roach of Delray Beach and her 12-year-old daughter, Madison.
Their vision and mission are to empower girls around the globe to rise up and achieve their highest potential.
“The event was amazing,” Madison said. “We talked about what courage and confidence means to us and how to apply it in real life.”
The Courage Club is an interactive, virtual program designed to help girls build confidence, develop leadership skills, and cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset. Daughters learn from inspiring mentors, engage in hands-on activities, and connect with like-minded girls around the world.
Each month, the Courage Club explores a new topic, from public speaking to financial literacy, and teaches the skills needed to lead boldly, dream big, and make a difference.
“It’s about encouraging female leaders to invest and pour time into their daughters,” Kelly said. “We support parents to prioritize the emotional well-being and growth of their children.”
The Seagate sponsored and hosted the August beach event, which included a refreshments bar with coconut drinks, relay races, cornhole, volleyball, bracelet making, and a photo shoot with Mimi Beauty to promote healthy choices in cosmetics.
Moms and daughters from around Florida shared their goals — and how to achieve them through determination and growth.
Two of the chief goals from moms were for their daughters to be exposed to leaders and for them to dream bigger.
“We want to reach as many girls as possible to join the club and learn about leadership and inspire them to become the founders of their lives,” Kelly said.
One of the challenges is preparing the girls for a world in which certain jobs may not exist when they become working adults.
“How do we make sure in a rapidly changing world that young girls can develop skills to succeed in the real world?” Kelly said. “A lot of industries won’t exist as they become women. We need girls who can persevere, be resilient and adapt as the future unfolds.”
Some of the other topics covered in the virtual meetings: Peer Pressure; Honoring You and Your Value; the Power of Boundaries; Friendship; Money, Business and Sales 101; Building Resilience; Career Exploration; Unlocking Your Inner Wisdom; Confidence in Communication; Exploring STEM; Leadership & Relationships; and Healthy Body, Healthy Mind.
Every month is a new opportunity to grow, and give each daughter the support and strategies she needs to become the leader she’s meant to be.
“Girls step into a new form of leadership through this community of moms and other girls,” said Madison, who, in addition to being a young entrepreneur, is very involved in competitive dance at Movement Complex in Boca Raton.
Although the in-person Seagate event was free, the annual cost for the program is $299. Sponsorships and scholarships offset some of the cost for families.
The club website — girlvibesofficial.com — is full of testimonials from satisfied girls.
“What I liked most about Courage Camp was hearing from an author and an actress,” said 9-year-old Irie Jaramillo. “Hearing their stories showed me that rejection is part of the process, and if my dreams are important to me, to keep going no matter what.
“I also learned that I don’t have to wait until I’m an adult to write a book or audition for Disney. Dreams have no age requirements.”
