The 12th annual reception raised a record $1 million in student scholarship funds that will help dress and equip the incoming class at the school’s Schmidt College of Medicine. The class of 72 aspiring doctors was selected based on both their academic accomplishments and their humanistic attributes. ‘Right now, South Florida as well as communities across the country are facing a significant shortage of health care professionals,’ said Dr. Julie Pilitsis, dean and vice president of medical affairs at the college. ‘FAU continues to aid in the charge of educating and training doctors, nurses and other front-line health care workers to reduce these gaps in accessible and quality health care for all.’ TOP: (l-r) Dr. Stuart and Beth Markowitz, Maurice Plough Jr., Bonnie Halperin and Dr. Joanna and Bryan Drowas.
