A new initiative launched by Lois Pope in conjunction with the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute provides free vision screenings and eyeglasses for children ages 2 and older from schools and youth organizations in Palm Beach County. ‘My mother suffered terribly for years from macular degeneration,’ Pope says. ‘I saw firsthand how vision impairment affected her physical and emotional well-being. Can you imagine what it does to a child? ... They may feel stupid because they can’t see and read.
