In case you had a notion to feed the iguanas, rats, mice or pigeons on your property, the city of Boca Raton has this to say: Don’t.
The City Council on Aug. 25, by a 3-2 vote, approved an ordinance that imposes a $100 fine on those who do so. It is intended to prohibit feeding that will attract such animals. The city’s code enforcement officers will issue the citations.
Mayor Andy Thomson, who requested the ordinance, disagreed with Council member Yvette Drucker’s criticism that it is a waste of time and taxpayer dollars. Thomson said the nuisance animal issue affects residents.
The ordinance does not apply to feeding feral cats and does not disallow bird feeders.
