While Lantana prepares for the bridge opening party on Nov. 16, it will not be having a GreenFest this year.
“When we started GreenFest, we anticipated that it would grow in popularity and attendance,” said David B. Thatcher, Lantana’s development services director. “The main objective was to provide information sessions on green living, saving energy and money. The vendors were primarily a way to attract people.”
Unfortunately, every year the attendance dropped at the information sessions and the vendors became less about “green” and more about “stuff.”
Last year there were only two or three people at each info session and overall attendance was down again. Then Community Planner Maggie Barszewski, who devoted several months each year to organizing GreenFest, left the town to work in Pompano.
“Since she left we simply do not have enough staff resources to devote to a less and less successful event,” Thatcher said. “It’s an unfortunate end to what started as a nice event.”
