Lantana Police Chief fired after DUI arrest

Police Chief Jeff Tyson was fired April 5 after his being arrested in Boca Raton on April 4 for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

Official word of Tyson’s termination was announced in a statement from Town Manager Mike Bornstein, who wrote that Tyson had violated town personnel policies, including conduct unbecoming of a town employee and “off-duty abuse of alcohol, which adversely affects an employee’s job performance.”

Tyson, 51, has been Lantana’s police chief since September 2010 when Chief Rick Lincoln retired.

He was arrested April 4 by Boca Raton police responding to an accident on Military Trail in which Tyson’s Ford Explorer (a town-owned vehicle) rear-ended an unmarked Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. Tyson’s blood alcohol tests (.229 and .234) were almost three times the legal limit for intoxication.

Booked into Palm Beach County Jail on April 4, Tyson was released hours later on his own recognizance.

Bornstein said Lantana Police Commander Sean Scheller has been named acting chief.

Woah! This is news. I have to share it with my friends. A friend of mine told me about increasing number of DUI cases. He probably knows it because his uncle is a very good DUI attorney Los Angeles. I want to be just like him and therefore, studying hard for it.
