Obituary Ralph R. Zuckerman By Mary Katherine Stump OCEAN RIDGE —
Ralph Zuckerman, 93, a long-time resident of Crown Colony, died
Monday, July 20. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years,
Violet Schmitt Zuckerman. “Theirs’ was a true love story,” said his
niece, Pam Holy. The two met at the Ford plant responsible for the
production of airplane parts during WWII on the Southside of
Chicago. He was a supervisor. She was responsible for quality
control down on the line. They were married in 1946. In the 1940s
the two began driving down to Florida from Chicago, having fallen
in love with the ocean, the unique vegetation and wildlife, and the
climate. In 1969 they purchased a place in Crown Colony, where they
vacationed until a permanent move in the 1970s. “Up until the end
they continued a nighttime routine,” said Ms. Holy. “Every night
one of them would say ‘I love you’ and the other would say ‘I love
you more.’ ” Mr. Zuckerman was born and raised in Chicago and was
an electrician there until his move to South Florida. He was a
veteran of WWII. “He was the best-natured man you’d ever want to
meet,” said Ms. Holy. “He was like a father to me. He loved to have
a good conversation and never talked at you. I remember that even
from when I was little.” Mr. Zuckerman is survived by Ms. Holy and
a grandnephew, Michael, both of Chicago. His ashes will be placed
along with his wife’s in a columbarium at a V.A. cemetery in
Florida at a later date.
