for its upcoming production of
John Steinbeck’s
Of Mice and Men
Palm Beach Dramaworks is holding open auditions for the role of Candy's dog in its upcoming production of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, which runs October 11 – November 10 (with previews on October 9 & 10) at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre (201 Clematis Street).
If you think your dog has the acting chops, e-mail a photo/video along with contact info and any training/experience of the stage-struck pooch to info@palmbeachdramaworks.org no later than 6pm on Friday, September 27.
The ideal candidate for the role is an older looking mixed breed, between 35-65 pounds. Candy's four-legged friend is described in the play as “a blind dog that is old, stinky and crippled." The dog cast in the role need not BE blind, old, stinky or crippled; in fact, there is a decided preference that the dog NOT be stinky. But he or she must be able to look the part. Dogs must also be able to regularly execute basic commands, and be at ease on a leash and among a large group of people. Candidates and their owners will need to be available for all performances and rehearsals, an eight-week commitment.
Producing Artistic Director William Hayes, Managing Director Sue Ellen Beryl, and Of Mice and Men director J. Barry Lewis will review all online submissions. Final candidates will be contacted by October 1, and in-person auditions for selected dogs will be held soon thereafter. Drinking water for the dogs (and humans) will be available.
Two dogs will be selected for the production, although it’s possible that only one will perform.
