A group of people who live at Devonshire at PGA National packed food for school children in Haiti.
“This project is part of a larger national effort, but locally it’s been hosted by St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and School,” said Bob Frasier, Devonshire resident. “There was added importance this year because of the severe damage done by Hurricane Matthew in the Bondeau region of Haiti. We had 13 residents participate this year.”
The work involves putting carefully measured amounts of soy, vegetables, beans, spices and rice into a pre-labeled plastic bag, which is then hermetically sealed and placed into a shipping carton. Each bag provides 6 nutritious meals for needy, hungry and undernourished school children.
“Our team packed 216 bags, for a total of 1,296 meals,” said Frasier. “This year, donations of clothing were accepted as well. It’s a huge team effort and I’m thrilled people from Devonshire are able to help. The shipping company DHL ships the cartons down to the Episcopal schools in Haiti. More than 100,000 meals and more than 150,000 boxes of clothes were shipped to Haiti.”
Other organizations involved were Temple Judea in Palm Beach Gardens and Episcopal Church of the Advent in Palm City, Florida.
