LOCAL ATTORNEYS SUPPORT NEED FOR PRENATAL CARE IN PALM BEACH COUNTY

BOCA RATON, FL – Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County (HMHB) was given a unique opportunity recently at a cocktail event in its honor chaired by local attorneys Gary Lesser and Merryl Haber of Lesser, Lesser, Landy and Smith, and Joel Feldman and Audrey Schneiderman of Feldman Schneiderman, both with offices in Boca Raton. Nearly sixty attorneys and local business leaders from south Palm Beach County attended the event where they learned about the need for prenatal care for women in the community and how Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies plays a vital role in providing access and education to pregnant women and teens.

“We were honored to host this event on behalf of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies and help to spread their mission. They are doing tremendous things to support pregnant women in Palm Beach County and ensure that women have early and consistent access to prenatal care,” said Gary Lesser, Managing Partner of Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith.

Guests were not only treated to a fine selection of food and drinks, but also a personal visit with Mike Jarvis, Men’s Basketball Head Coach at Florida Atlantic University and Co-Host of the event.

“This organization provides an incredible service to women and teens in our community. I am so impressed with what they’re doing that I plan on involving the students of FAU in their mission later this year,” said Jarvis.

“The support of the local community and board members like Joel Feldman are keys to our success as an organization,” said Gail Kleinert, Executive Director of HMHB. “In Palm Beach County, nearly twenty-five percent of women are delivering babies with little or no prenatal care. It is our mission to provide education and access to health care resources for these women so that their babies are born healthy, safe and strong.”

- HEALTHY MOTHERS, HEALTHY BABIES COALITION OF PALM BEACH COUNTY -

In 1985, 900 pregnant women in Palm Beach County with little or no prenatal care walked in to local hospitals to deliver their babies, precipitating an increase in the county's low birth weight babies, infant mortality, medical complications and children with disabilities. As a result, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies was established in 1986 and continues to improve birth outcomes, promote healthy families and build healthy communities by providing access to prenatal care for underserved and uninsured pregnant women and education on pregnancy issues to all residents of Palm Beach County.
