Margie Plunkett’s article in April’s issue (Sea grapes to be trimmed to improve the view)  neglected to mention that the cost for this  proposed atrocity is $750,000 and is to be paid by city taxpayers.
This “project” would be unconscionable in the best of fiscal conditions.  To do so when the city is laying workers off and cutting services is beyond absurd.

  • Not only do I agree completely with Dan Shirley's comments about the outrageous cost to be borne by  taxpayers, I have grave concerns about going ahead with the all four corridor at once project now permitted by DEP after pressure from the city.

They can begin the cuts now - during nesting /hatching season and if false crawls and lethal disorientation ( death of hatchlings because of sky-glow) take place, on some or all of the seaview areas, it will be too late to step back and reconsider.

If this should also be a hurricane season, we might find sand across A1A and traffic disruption.

  • and it will bring more light to the beach and disturb the sea turtles. Then again, will sea grapes be allowed to grow back or is this a yearly expenditure to keep them low???
