Regardless of the “spin” you present in the article [Mary McCarty reflects on life after prison, May 2011] — and, yes, we know she paid her debt to society— she is still a corrupt politician who violated the trust we the voters placed in her.
She and her husband acted for self-serving reasons over ethical standards. She was an arrogant person who used her position for the exact opposite reason she was elected: represent the people of Palm Beach County to the best of her ability.
The felony conviction may be removed from her file, but remember felons can’t vote, run for political office and serve as a juror. Not a label deserving of front-page coverage in The Coastal Star. I scratch my head over your journalism.
