This season Boynton Beach’s Recreation and Parks Department allowed 30-plus, double-seated wooden chaise lounge rentals to be a permanent fixture in Oceanfront Park. They line the dunes, on one of the widest stretches of our local beach, which happens to be a prime turtle nesting area.

I am one person who would rather see the sand to the dunes without these eyesores. I prefer to show and teach children, my visiting friends and family, everything I know about the turtles and their nests, which are a Florida treasure.

Has this creation of turtle nesting barriers, which I have never seen used to capacity, filled the department’s treasure chest, for other park necessities? If not, could the turtles please have their beach back?
