Letter to the Editor: A note to Bob Ganger

Dear Bob,

Anyone who was at the Delray Beach Historical Society on December 6th honoring a celebration of your life, had to feel your presence.

The people who came to the podium acknowledged how deeply you had touched their lives both as a mentor as well as a friend. As they spoke, the picture of your face that was on display beamed with that heartfelt smile that all who knew you embraced.
It was that kind hearted and open facial expression you wore like a wonderful welcome that encouraged all to share their thoughts with you while waiting for your perfect feedback. You took any conversation and gave it your time addressing it in a devoted and meaningful way.

I remember the first time meeting you at your office located in the alleyway a few doors down from my home, The Historic Hartman House. Although the room was small and a bit dark, your brilliant light shined through and I knew you would help ensure Delray would retain its charm and character. The Florida Coalition for Preservation was and will always be your baby. There is no denying how much you saved from the wrecking ball with Briny Breezes being near the top of the list providing affordability for every day folks to live by the water. Honestly, there was no scope above your reach in saving our shores and the little guy and gal always came first with you, Bob.

There is an infinite amount you’ve accomplished in your life causing one of the speakers at the podium giving your name the iconic status it deserves. Her definition of what your name Bob stood for was and will always be “the Best of the Best.”

Forever in my thoughts with love and appreciation,
Benita

PS I wore that penguin shirt from the Falkland Islands that night which I brought back for you and left at your doorstep earlier this year. Will  always envision your smiling self radiating along with those penguins.
