As a recognized advocate of children's well-being and education, Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith, PLLC (LLL&S) served as “Principal” sponsor for the Salvation Army Northwest Community Center Annual School Luncheon --- attended by more than 100 community leaders and children --- to encourage other West Palm Beach organizations to care for and encourage the community’s youth through support of The Salvation Army After School Tutorial program.
Serving as a fundraiser for The Salvation Army while simultaneously showcasing this important service they provide to Palm Beach County, the event was chaired by David Ackerman and Beatrice McKoy and featured guest speaker Jennifer Prior Brown, Esq. of the Palm Beach County School Board-District 4 and lunch with children in The Salvation Army’s after-school program. Attendees received a tour of the facility, talked with the 29 attending students seated two per table of adults, learned about the after-school program and services and were entertained by local youth who are enrolled.
“Since education is the path to hope, we at Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith are pleased to support The Salvation Army’s vital after school program and services,” noted LLL&S Managing Partner Gary Lesser. “The Firm’s support of The Salvation Army goes back more than 50 years, and it is critical that children have such a warm, nurturing, educational and recreational place to spend quality time between school and home. We encourage others to support this great educational program, so that these children can reach their full potential.”
The Salvation Army After School Tutorial Program began in 2008 and caters to local youth in kindergarten through 8th grade and primarily focuses on math and reading. The program has had a 98% success rate for promotion of enrolled students to the next grade level, while helping an average of 34% of students to improve by one to two letter grades over the course of the school year while the other 66% maintained their grades.
