An event hosted for the kids and families that Children’s Harbor serves

Pembroke Pines, FL (November 20, 2024) – Each year, Children’s Harbor makes the holiday season special for the kids and families they serve. Children’s Harbor is a nationally accredited child welfare organization that provides a safe shelter and support to teens in foster care. On Wednesday, December 11, Children’s Harbor will host its annual Cookies and Cocoa event at its main campus in Pembroke Pines.

With support from the Pembroke Pines Fire Department, kids and families will see Santa and will be given gifts to open. The event is closed to the public, and gives Children’s Harbor a chance to share the holiday cheer with the kids and families that they serve.

Children’s Harbor’s main campus in Pembroke Pines provides a supportive family environment for teenagers in foster care and their younger siblings. The family support services program prevents kids from coming into foster care by providing free in-home counseling and support to families who are struggling in the community. The Cookies and Cocoa event will be made special this year, as the Children’s Harbor team is providing ginger beard houses for kids and families to decorate.

“We are so grateful to have Pembroke Pines Fire Department as a collaborative partner this year,” said Tiffani Dhooge, President and CEO of Children’s Harbor. “Thank you for believing in our team and supporting our mission to reach higher for the kids we are entrusted to serve. We’re beyond excited for this event and to celebrate the holidays with them."

Thanks to the Pembroke Pines Fire Department, this event will bring joy and holiday fun to the children and families served by Children’s Harbor, creating lasting memories for all who participate. With Santa’s arrival and the gift donations from the fire department, the day promises to be filled with laughter, warmth, and a sense of community.

About Children’s Harbor

Established in 1996, Children’s Harbor is a nationally accredited child welfare organization with a mission to help strengthen families who are struggling in our community, while providing safe shelter and support to teens in foster care so that they may grow into healthy, educated and productive adults.

With the belief that children should feel safe, that family is worth fighting for and that cycles can be broken, Children’s Harbor provides a harbor of hope and healing for children who have been impacted by the trauma of child abuse.  The main campus in Pembroke Pines provides a supportive family environment for teenagers in foster care and their younger siblings. The family support services program prevents kids from coming into foster care by providing free in-home counseling and support to families who are struggling in the community. Additionally, Brown’s Harbor is a supportive housing community dedicated to serving young adults, aged 18-23, who have aged out of the foster care system.  These young adults are provided with affordable housing and the wrap-around support and independent living programs necessary to help them overcome their trauma and navigate through the early stages of adulthood.
