The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and the Performance Project are once again offering the popular Summer Theater Camp 2011.
Multiple four-week sessions will be offered from June through August at the Broward Center, Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark and the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center for children between the ages of six and 18.
Acting Up and Broadway Bound groups for children between 6 and 14 are available at all three venues, and the Young Professionals program for teens age 14 – 18 is only available at the Broward Center and Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark.
Introduced to all facets of the performing arts, campers learn about the arts, attend master classes with professionals in the industry and top off their experience by performing in live Broadway-style shows in a professional theater setting.
The first two weeks of each session focuses on a curriculum that includes tap, jazz and ballet classes, acting for the stage and camera, improvisation, design, costuming and production.
Young Professional campers also will attend master classes with professional artists in the industry.
By the third week nearly two thirds of the camp is devoted to production with the final week given over to rehearsals, performance and a cast pizza party.
All campers will receive a water bottle and camp T-shirt. The total capacity per session for Acting Up and Broadway Bound programs combined is 50 campers.
The Acting UP group is for campers between the ages of six and 11 and Broadway Bound is for campers between nine and 14. First and second session Acting UP campers will perform a Broadway revue.
First session Broadway Bound campers will perform Once Upon a Mattress and second session Broadway Bound campers will perform Cats. Camp fees for either program is $880 which includes two complimentary tickets to any performance in which the camper appears, a DVD of the final performance, a T-shirt, water bottle, script and a primary costume (for use during the show).
There is a $230 non-refundable deposit to reserve a spot which is included in the full camp payment. The balance is due one month prior to the start of each session.
Before and after care is also available at $50 per session between 8 and 9 a.m., $100 per session between 4 and 6 p.m. or at a daily rate of $10 per day for either.
There is a $200 discount for siblings or for those who enroll in both sessions. Campers must bring their own lunches but snacks will be on sale for a nominal fee.

The Young Professionals program is for teens ages 14 to 18 who have been admitted to ninth grade and is limited to no more than 25 campers per session.
Young Professionals will have the opportunity to assist the younger campers and earn community service hours.
Young Professional campers will perform Disney’s Camp Rock in the first session and Disney’s Aladdin, Jr. in the second session.
