First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach held its inaugural Blessing of the Pets Sunday, October 25th garnering over $1,500 for its Deacons’ Scholarship Fund, which assists deserving members of the church pursuing full-time higher education. From a pet goat to pet caterpillars to dogs and cats, nearly 90 animals and over 120 adoring humans convened in the church courtyard for this special worship service dedicated to pets and creatures of all sorts. A service dog named Ali from S.N.I.F. (Special Narcotic Investigative Forces) was there as a special guest. After the short worship service led by Associate Pastor Reverend Aaron Janklow, each attending animal, pet photo and even stuffed animal received an individual blessing by the pastor. Additionally, all the pets will be given a blessing certificate emailed to their owners memorializing the event.“On behalf of the church, I thank the community, church members and animals for coming out to support our first worship service commemorating our pets and the unconditional love they provide us,” says Rev. Janklow. “Also, we give a special thanks to church friend Dr. Jacqueline Pevny who gave a generous $500 donation to our Deacons’ Scholarship Fund in honor of this event.”Due to its great success, the second annual Blessing of the Pets has already been scheduled for next October 24, 2010.About First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach:First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach is located at 33 Gleason St., Delray Beach, Fl 33483.
