The Boca Raton Public Library presents the Florida premier screening of TYRUS, an award-winning documentary about the life of Chinese-American painter Tyrus Wong. A brilliant artist, Tyrus Wong once exhibited with Picasso and Matisse. A film and animation legend, Wong was the visual genius behind such classics as Bambi and Rebel Without a Cause. Wong survived Angel Island, the Chinese Exclusion Act and the Great Depression. His talent, humor, humility and resilience are explored in this in-depth portrait of his life. TYRUS premiered at the 42nd Telluride Film Festival and has since garnered awards at film festivals across the country. The film uses original interviews of Wong, guest interviews, archival footage and photos along with clips and concept art from early Hollywood movies and his 80 years of work to tell the story of his remarkable journey from his birthplace in Guangzhou, China, to the boardinghouses of Los Angeles’s old Chinatown and to the Golden Age of Hollywood.
